FORT STANTON INC.

Fort Stanton Inc. is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization devoted to the historic preservation and protection of the former military compound known as Fort Stanton, New Mexico. Because of the Fort’s unique role in national and world history and its present state of preservation, we believe it is worthy of special care that will enhance its economic impact on the State of New Mexico, the rural environment in which it rests and the accurate interpretation of its social and archeological contributions to the American West.

It is Fort Stanton’s desire to :

Preserve, protect and operate the site (including all original acreage, water rights, buildings and cemeteries) as an educational and interpretive complex open to the public;

Provide approved historic re-enactments, museum displays of period artifacts, ongoing historic seminars and research activities, literary and artistic presentations in keeping with the Fort’s history;

Encouraging local, state and federal agency cooperation in attaining support, funding and technical assistance for restoration, and

The continued enhancement and maintenance of the grace, cultural heritage and the simplistic beauty of the site in accordance with the provisions of the Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and Sec. 18-6-1 thru Sec. 18-6-17 of NMSA 1978.
